Community Education


Te Wharerangi Trust contracts educators. They are responsible for overseeing the educational programmes the trust offer.

These include:

  • Volunteer Helpers

  • Community Service/Probation

  • Workbridge placements

  • Work-based training

  • Education programmes

  • Library and Resource Centre

  • Venue for local events

  • Working Bees

 

Volunteers

People from the community are most welcome to visit and assist at any time. Please contact the manager.


Community Education

Herb course

Frequent courses are offered, such as: Worm farming,   the Worms in Schools programme, Home Composting programme, Seed saving workshops, Organic growing, Permaculture, Landscaping, Arboriculture, and others.

 



Workbridge Placements

Workbridge supports people with a varying range of abilities to move forward into employment, introducing them  to new skills, so that they become more fully involved in the community.


Work-based Training

Golden Bay Community Gardens operates as an accredited delivery site for the Golden Bay Workcentre Trust.


Library and Resource Centre

The Community Gardens' library is situated in the Kiosk and has a collection of donated books, periodicals, and videos on organics, gardening and related topics. It is open to all for browsing, borrowing and research.

Venue for local events

The gardens provide a venue for local events.
These include:

  • HANDS market
  • Farmers market
  • Solstice festival events
  • Seasonal festivals.



 


Workshops and activities for children may be included in these events. The gardens are available as a venue for community events and private functions.

Working BeesWorking bee

The Gardens' working bees, help build community involvement and support the development of current projects. These activities often coincide with the changing of the seasons and enable locals and visitors alike to meet, share and enjoy the beautiful garden atmosphere.
