Beautification and Maintenance

The site is encompassed with shelter belts of a “mixed” species of trees. These provide habitats for animals and insects, wind shelter and protection from possible spray drift from neighbouring properties. There are also several internal plantings for shelter and screening.

Herbaceous borders throughout the site are maintained with on going plantings of annuals and perennials. The plants encourage insects which help control pests and produce flowers for salads and seed. The orchard contains a wide variety of fruit trees.

The paths are comprised of sawdust or hard fill and the herbage areas are mowed by the Golden Bay High School caretaker in exchange for using a designated fire area for prunings.
