ALI 'FIRECRACKER'

I help out with the kids on Youth Training and Alternative Education.

My ten years experience as a school teacher gave me the skills to be able to help them gain literacy and numeracy skills and work towards their NZQA Unit Standards. I also tutor adults who wish to improve their literacy skills.

I am the Communication Skills and also the Superseed Programme co-ordinator and have the most chaotic room at the Golden Bay Work Centre! That is because things are in a constant state of flux!

I enjoy working as part of a team and have a great rapport with my students. It's great to see the students gaining new skills. I get a lot of satisfaction from watching them grow in confidence and gain self esteem.

I think this place is unique. It is a community networking place. Because of its size and structure it can run without too many rules. It's like Whanau or family here. Everyone is here by choice.
