 T.O.P. COURSESMIXED MEDIA AND DESIGNThe Mixed Media and Design course is another TOP Course offered at the Golden Bay Workcentre over a 40 week duration.
This course involves the development of design skills working with a range of media. Skills offered on this course are:
- DRAWING- Drawing skills will be developed for visual recording and learning about the creative process, design and perspective.
- JEWELLERY- Use of tools, three dimensional design using metal, stones and found objects. Working with silver, brass and copper; includes an opportunity to complete items of your own design.
- FIBRE AND FABRIC- Working with a range of materials you will learn more about design, form, shape and the creative process. There will be an opportunity to create your own designs.

PAINTING- You will explore the use of colour and different media.
- POTTERY- Working with clay you will have an opportunity to explore this media using various techniques.
- SKILLS FOR LIVING- Life skills are taught offering skills for personal growth, group situations and pre-employment.
- SMALL BUSINESS MANAGEMENT/MARKETING- Understand the basics of starting your own business, business skills, marketing, market trend, pricing your own work and much more.
You will be able to prepare and participate in exhibitions of your work. There will be an emphasis on developing practical art skills for use in areas of possible self employment.
The course will include New Zealand Qualification Authority Practical Art Units (up to level 2) for further education in visual arts. There will be visits to craft shops and studios plus two weeks work experience in an arts and crafts studio.
The Trust will supply you with good work space and materials for each individual project for the duration of the course.
